Tell us about yourself?
I am Telecommunications engineer and I PhD in advanced materials. After my thesis I continued my work as researcher in a public R&D Center in the Technical University in Madrid. One of the areas in which I participated was the one that resulted in the technology in which are based all our solutions.
After applying for a patent we (my colleague Carlos and I, the younger members of the inventors team) decided puting the technology in the market instead of placing it in a drawer.
What is the inspiration behind your business?
High security market is a really fascinating as well as unknown market. Making everyday objects secure to the point that users do not need to know anything about the technologies protecting them is amazing. A banknote or an ID card contain tens of technologies on the cutting edge of the knowledge and users have them in their pockets without even realizing.
What is your magic sauce?
We generate unique and very attractive security features which are really easy to verify while catching end users attention. The technology behind these visual solutions is really sophisticated while it is very easy to check and to understand.
The main difference between us and our competitors is the fact that we are outsiders. This is something that in principle it might be seen as a disadvantage however it is undoubtedly an advantage. We are not experts in High Security with hundreds of years of experience (some of our competitors have more than 200 years of history) so we design solutions as end users who are not experts. This results into really intuitive and attractive features.
Where do you see your company going in 5 years time?
There are two possible scenarios: A) licensing our solutions to all the main players in High Security market; B) being acquired by a big player leading the market.
What has been your biggest setback so far?
Managing the long term deadlines of High Security market. Reaching the market being integrated into an official document typically takes about 10 years to a new technology and this is something really challenging for small start-up.
What is the next big challenge for your business?
The launch of an official document including our solution.
How do people get involved/buy into your vision?
We would like all the Central Banks and governments issuing documents (banknotes or ID documents) with transparent windows to assess the use of our solutions. They will realize that our solution fits the best with this widely used transparent regions.
