Local Purse is a women-led startup founded by Lola Akinmade Åkerström and Sara Mansouri. Between us, we have 15+ years domain expertise within the travel Industry, 20+ years within system architecture and information systems, and 15+ years experience within product & business development, operational excellence, and customer success management.

What is the inspiration behind your business?

When the pandemic hit, the travel industry lost over $4 trillion in revenue and over 100 million jobs, with the most impacted being local guides and cultural artisans who depend fully on tourism. Local Purse, is the solution that addresses these problems by combining the future of travel (virtual experiences) with the future of retail (live video shopping).

What is your magic sauce?

By providing an easy-to-use innovative solution to facilitate live video shopping experiences between local guides, small locally-owned businesses, and travelers, our competitive advantage is that we focus on personalized experiences and foster connection. Local Purse generates product information for offline stores dynamically. Our solution provides a very low-barrier for entry and speedy onboarding, plus we address six (6) of the UN Sustainable Development Goals.

Where do you see your company going in 5 years time?

We are creating both a painkiller and long term vitamin for the travel industry by leveraging a solid macro trend, which is the future of retail – live video shopping. We are currently building a global marketplace that combines both virtual cultural experiences and live video shopping seamlessly.

With a market-validated solution and a solid profile of our go-to market customers, our strategic goal for 2022 involves securing funds so we can actively grow our community and onboard partnerships, continue to expand our customer base and continue to accelerate our offerings across more destinations including more remote locations.

What has been your biggest setback so far?

The last year has shown us the various blind spots of the travel industry. Through innovation, ingenuity and expertise, Local Purse has been able to create the perfect solution to tackle one of those blind spots while also providing equity and being a social impact startup at our core.

What is the next big challenge for your business?

We are actively seeking pre-seed investments to take our currently bootstrapped startup to the next level.
