Max Dowsing: Automating and Optimising the Group Travel Industry via Technology and Data

We connect travellers and travel organisers to a global network of Minibus and Coach suppliers, automating and optimising the group travel industry via technology and data.

Tell us about yourself?

I worked in the education industry in the UK, organising travel for thousands of international students before moving to Berlin to work in the travel technology industry. Within these roles I saw the pluses and minuses of technology and data innovation throughout the travel industry, including for group and event travel.

With a lack of innovation in the Bus travel sector for groups, combined with both my experience of legacy processes organising travel and the requirement for more sustainable travel solutions, we created Volubus to provide innovation and change for an underserved part of the travel industry.

What is the inspiration behind your business?

I and my cofounder worked in the travel technology industry for over 10 years and saw a lack of focus on bringing bus travel, a more environmentally friendly travel option in many instances, into the revolution in technology and data centric solutions for travel. By highlighting both local travel networks/options and simplifying the management process of bus travel we aim to bring bus travel, as it is now, to the fore as a travel option as well as playing a major role in bringing more sustainable infrastructure to bus travel for events and group travel.

What is your magic sauce?

Geo-location technology pinpoints the most sustainable and price friendly travel option for groups travelling with Volubus by Bus, as a result of our extensive, centralised coverage of over 30 countries.

By utilising the data we harvest from local suppliers across so many locations, we can bring industry knowledge to customers in a few simple booking steps, that helps them to access a wider sector of the industry, whilst lowering numerous complexities usually associated with the booking and payment process of group and event bus travel.

Where do you see your company going in 5 years time?

More locations, and more data that can be utilised to optimise Bus travel from an economic and sustainability perspective for both suppliers and customers.

What has been your biggest setback so far?

What is the next big challenge for your business?

Expanding our data knowledge quickly enough to ensure each location we work in is truly optimised for bus travel requirements and offers the best solution for clients and suppliers as a whole.

How do people get involved/buy into your vision?

We want to work with the travel industry as a whole, both customers and suppliers, to bring bus travel to the fore as a enjoyable, quality and sustainable travel option. Contact us at
