We transform unused water space into a home for clean energy generation. HelioRec is building simple and powerful floating solar power plants. Our focus is on near-shore locations where half of the global population live.

Tell us about yourself?

Polina Vasilenko | 19 years’ experience in the energy sector | A strong believer in renewables.

I am passionate environmental entrepreneur, with two master’s degrees in Chemistry and Renewable Energy (ocean) and as well a mentor in Women in Tech.

As an active traveler (68 countries) and scuba-diver (100 m), I saw many beautiful places ruined by negative anthropogenic impacts and based on my personal experience and internal feelings, I decided to change her career’s path from “black” side of fossil fuel to “green” side of renewable energy. After a successful 14-year career in the oil and gas industry (ex-Schlumberger), I decided to make a fundamental career change and to do something useful for the planet.

Both my trainings and vast working experience led her to found HelioRec.

What is the inspiration behind your business?

We want to solve these major problems for any companies near the shore lines (ports, marinas, hotels, construction companies etc.):

  • High concentration of GHG emissions.
  • Land scarcity and/or land is expensive to use it for clean energy generation, especially, for solar power plants. Solar panels occupy a lot of land space (1MW approximately takes 10 000 m2) and this space better to use for other needs.

Using water space for clean energy generation can solve both problems in the most sustainable way.

In many near shore regions can be found shallow water areas which are not suitable for ships, boats but can be perfectly used for floating solar power plants.

We are looking for customers (ports, marinas, energy companies, offshore construction companies) and together we can install power plants and generate a clean energy.
