Wisecrop is the Agricultural Operating System. A centralized and unified online interface to support farm management, from the field to the office. Its comprehensiveness allows full integration with any existent solution, being weather stations, soil moisture probes, irrigation controllers, machinery, invoicing software, invnetory management, or any others.
By seamlessly connecting the plants with the people, Wisecrop boosts the results of the farming business by reducing resources such as water, fertilizers or pesticides, while increasing yield, season after season. Also, Wisecrop provides full traceability, connecting the farmers with the consumers.
Our mission is to connect the world’s agrifood sector, ensuring sustainability for future generations. We are pursuing this mission by digitalizing agricultural production enhancing its profitability with technological empowerment.
Tell us about yourself?
The four co-founders of Wisecrop met each other at the University. We were working on a project together, which right after the University resulted on the first prototype of Wisecrop first product: a versatile and powerful datalogger to provide accurate and real-time data from the field.
Soon we decided to pivot the concept of a Agronomic Decision Support System to a wider, more powerful and scalable concept: the Agricultural Operating System. We want to provide reall value to Farmers and connect them with the consumers, ensuring that the Agricultural Sector is sustainable, both enviornmentally and economically.
What is the inspiration behind your business?
We know that Farming Industry is pretty much behind any other activity sector regarding technological usage. While we are already experiencing 5G in most of the urban areas, farms usually lack any connectivity at all. Also, because of the average age and background of farm managers, technology is not immediatly adopted in most of the farms, which creates problems of improving results and growing the business.
On Wisecrop, we are trying to minimize those effects and accelerate technological incorporation on the Agricultural Sector. We’re doing that with very simple-to-use interfaces, but powerful, actionable and insightful tools that provide real value to farmers and other agri-players. We are contributing to increase the perception of the value Farmer’s trully have.
What is your magic sauce?
Wisecrop is the only solution available capable of connecting the field with the office in such a natural way. Field operators, field managers, consultants, accountants, farm managers and administrators can now have one single interface to connect with each other. And on top of that, the tools available allow enhancing the results of the yield, ensuring returns of investment in less that 1 year!
Where do you see your company going in 5 years time?
In the next 5 years Wisecrop will support the management of the main farming business in Europe. It will also be present in the new forms of interaction between farmers and consumers. Different, innovative and bold solutions are yet to come!
What has been your biggest setback so far?
As for today, the biggest setback is the time it takes for mindsets to change. Farmers are used to work in a specific way, without any kind of technology, for decades! Most of the times the business went from grandfather to father to son across the years, without major changes in its operation.
As we are providing a disruptive solution, changing the way the business has always been managed is what is taking more time to overcome. But times are changing, fortunately. New generations are starting to look into their farms differently and technology takes an important role there. I’m sure the future is bright!
What is the next big challenge for your business?
Our current big challenge is to be able to expand the business, replicating the model already working in some countries. There are some adjustments to be made on the platform and on our operations to become fully replicable – and that’s what we are focused on right now! During this year, we will have some very interesting updates!
